Backend Lead – Mobile Apps | Remote (EU timezones) - Freelance

About the company
Early-stage mobile gaming studio (12 people) building and scaling B2C apps. Launched ~2 years ago, the company raised a €1M pre-seed and is already profitable, with strong growth.
They currently operate a first successful app and have additional apps in production, with the ambition to build a portfolio of high-performing consumer products.

The role
You will join as Backend Lead, with ownership of backend architecture and data foundations across multiple apps.

Tech team setup:

• 4 Frontend engineers

• 1 Backend Engineer (your role)

• 1 DevOps

You will be the main backend owner in the team.

Key responsibilities:

• Own backend architecture across apps (APIs, data, performance)

• Design and scale REST APIs

• Lead implementation of tracking and analytics (Amplitude or similar)

• Work closely with product, marketing and frontend teams on feature delivery

• Ensure robustness and scalability as new apps and geographies launch

Profile

• Lead Backend with 5-10 years of experience

• Experience working on mobile apps, ideally in gaming or other B2C verticals

• Hands-on experience with analytics tools (Amplitude ideally)

• Experience implementing tracking systems end-to-end

• Strong backend fundamentals: REST APIs, MongoDB/MySQL, monitoring tools (e.g. Grafana)

• Comfortable in small, fast-moving teams with high ownership
