As an intern, you will be able to collaborate with and be guided by the senior developer team of Skynopy. You will be able to learn and work with a team of skilled people.
To enable you to ramp up on space operations and get a global picture of Skynopy’s software, you will contribute directly to the platform development. This is where you’ll build a solid, hands-on understanding of how Skynopy’s infrastructure works end-to-end, from the ground stations to the software layer that turns them into a single, reliable network.
Guided by the team, you will contribute to real feature implementations across the stack, including:
Coding API endpoints in the backend, contributing to the services powering the platform
Adding logs and metrics on infrastructure components to enhance observability and support faster issue detection and diagnosis
Improving the testing of existing components, to strengthen platform robustness as it scales
Improving deployment pipelines, to enable faster and safer feature releases
Contributing to other backend, infrastructure, or tooling work depending on team priorities and the roadmap at the time
This is not an isolated task: you will be integrated into the same codebase, code reviews, and priorities as the rest of the engineering team, gaining direct exposure to how a fast-moving space-tech platform is built and operated in production.
In addition to contributing to Skynopy’s core development, you will be responsible for a well-scoped project of your own, with autonomy in its execution and support from the team as needed.
Example of a project you could lead: integrating a Mission Control Software (MCS) into Skynopy’s infrastructure, for internal testing purposes. An MCS is software satellite operators use to send Telecommands to their satellite and receive Telemetry in return, in real time. This would typically involve researching and selecting a suitable open-source MCS (e.g. Yamcs, OpenC3), installing and configuring it, and developing the adapter connecting it to Skynopy’s interface — first validated with simulated data, then with a real satellite contact. This would provide Skynopy with a means to test its own platform as a genuine end user would.
This is one example of the type of ownership on offer: a well-defined problem, with the latitude to make key decisions on how to address it.
