Context

Our client, a fast-paced B2C digital company operating at significant scale, is looking for a Freelance Staff Engineer to support its tech teams in a context of technical structuring, industrialization and scalability.

This is a transition mission, designed to support the organization while the company recruits the permanent internal person for the role.

The mission will take place in a demanding product-driven environment, with strong expectations around technical excellence, performance, reliability, scalability and business impact.

At this stage, the exact scope of the mission is still being defined. However, the expected role is already clear: a highly senior technical profile able to contribute to technical vision, complex problem-solving, team alignment and execution quality.

Role

As a Staff Engineer, you will act as a senior technical reference for product and engineering teams.

You will contribute to key technical decisions, architecture guidelines and engineering standards, while remaining close to delivery teams and operational realities.

This is not only an expert role. It requires the ability to challenge, structure, influence, communicate, mentor and drive technical topics forward in a pragmatic way.

Main responsibilities

Architecture & technical vision

You will help define, improve and secure the application and technical architecture.

• assessing the current technical landscape and identifying structural weaknesses;

• proposing pragmatic, scalable and maintainable architecture directions;

• contributing to high-impact technical decisions;

• helping teams implement strong engineering standards;

• ensuring technical consistency across product and engineering domains.

Scalability, performance & reliability

In a high-traffic digital environment, you will contribute to improving system performance, availability and resilience.

Engineering team support

You should be able to translate technical topics into concrete product and business impacts, especially in an environment where technical decisions directly affect conversion, retention, performance and user experience.
