Freelance · 2 days/week, with the possibility to increase to 3 days · Fully remote · Ideal start date: October 1st
We are supporting a small international tech company of around 26 employees, mainly based across France and the United States.
The company operates in a highly entrepreneurial, demanding and remote-first environment, with a lean structure, limited hierarchy and a strong level of autonomy.
At this stage, the priority is not to build complex HR programs, but to bring in someone who can run People Operations reliably and autonomously, with a strong focus on payroll, HR administration and compliance.
The initial assignment is planned for 3 months, renewable. If the collaboration goes well and the company’s next business planning cycle supports it, there may be an opportunity to transition into a permanent role after approximately 6 months.
The company currently has:
around 15 employees in France, mainly tech profiles
around 8 employees in the US, mostly sales profiles
2 employees hired through EOR / employment solutions in Europe
multiple entities and jurisdictions across France, the US and Europe
Payroll across the different populations is managed through Deel
The People function is still relatively lean. The immediate priority is therefore to ensure that the fundamentals are handled properly: payroll, administration, compliance, legal coordination and day-to-day People Operations.
Over time, there will also be an opportunity to contribute to the broader structuring of the People function.
This is first and foremost a very hands-on People Operations role
You will be responsible for ensuring smooth and accurate payroll execution across the different employee populations.
Responsibilities will include:
preparing, submitting and approving payroll for France and the US
managing employees hired through EOR / employment solutions
collecting and entering payroll variables
integrating sales commissions
reviewing payroll data and identifying inconsistencies
coordinating with Deel and external payroll providers
managing maternity leave, paternity leave, sick leave and other absences
investigating and resolving payroll issues
ensuring payroll deadlines and approvals are met
A key part of the role will be proactively identifying missing information and following up with the relevant stakeholders until issues are resolved.
You will also own a broad range of day-to-day People Operations topics, including:
employment contracts and amendments
HR administration across France and the US
employment law and compliance topics
URSSAF-related matters and audits
support on employee termination processes when required
review of US employment contracts
benefits administration, including health insurance, insurance plans and 401(k)
review and maintenance of internal HR policies
remote work policy updates
onboarding and offboarding
HR tools and employee data management
preparation of administrative or regulatory files
For someone working 3 days per week, the role may also include some Business Partnering responsibilities.
This may involve:
supporting managers and employees on day-to-day People topics
becoming a trusted and credible People point of contact
helping move topics forward when stakeholders are busy or slow to respond
challenging managers when necessary
proactively chasing decisions, approvals or missing information
supporting managers on employee-related topics
Because the company is fully remote, the ability to build trust and strong working relationships remotely will be particularly important.
This is a small and lean organization where individuals have broad ownership and communication is very direct.
You will work closely with the company’s main operational stakeholder, as well as managers and leadership across France and the US.
This role will particularly suit someone who enjoys:
low-bureaucracy environments
hands-on ownership
international teams
remote-first organizations
solving operational problems quickly
bringing structure without creating unnecessary processes
taking initiative rather than waiting for instructions
