IT/OT Engineer – Pharmaceutical ManufacturingContext

A pharmaceutical manufacturing site is looking for an IT/OT Engineer to further develop the integration between production equipment and business systems. The site aims to minimise manual data entry as much as possible. Batch data and recipes must be automatically transferred from SAP and MES to production equipment. Following each batch, reporting data must be fully and accurately transferred back to SQL databases and the historian, without any data loss.

The role is part of the automation team, whose members are responsible for process programming (PLC, SCADA and HMI). The focus of this position is on data: interfaces, alarms, audit trails, reporting and user access management.

Mission

The IT/OT Engineer maps out data flows, establishes the required structures and ensures they work effectively in practice, on both the hardware and software sides.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain interfaces between SAP, MES, recipe managers and production equipment.

• Ensure that batch data and recipes are correctly transferred to production equipment.

• Ensure that reporting data is fully transferred back to SQL databases and OSI PI after each batch cycle.

• Structure and standardise alarms and audit trails across different vendors.

• Thoroughly test alarms and audit trails during development, FAT and SAT.

• Support the engineering team during FAT and SAT activities, including process-related testing where necessary.

• Submit and follow up on IT tickets for the installation and configuration of servers, firewalls and PCs required to support data flows.

• Set up user access to production systems through integration with domain controllers.

• Prepare IQ documentation and coordinate with validation engineers for OQ activities.

• Contribute to new projects involving predictive and counter-based maintenance, AI and OEE.

• Systems and data: SAP, MES, SQL databases, OSI PI.

• Automation: PLC, SCADA, HMI, recipe managers.

• Testing and validation: FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ.

• Infrastructure and access: Servers, firewalls, PCs, domain controllers.

• Maintenance and production: Predictive maintenance, counter-based maintenance, AI, OEE.

Candidate ProfileExperience

• Experience with OSI PI (historian).

• Experience in reporting; experience with RtReports is a plus.

• Experience in a regulated environment, such as GMP, qualification and validation, is a strong advantage.

Technical Skills

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automation, Electronics and ICT, Industrial Engineering or an equivalent field.

• Good knowledge of SQL and of structuring and storing new data in existing databases.

• Understanding of the integration between ERP/MES systems and production systems.

• Fluent in Dutch and good command of English.

Personal Skills

• Structured approach to work, with the ability to think in terms of data flows and dependencies.

• Thorough testing skills and a strong focus on documentation.

• Ability to coordinate effectively with colleagues in automation, IT and validation, as well as with external vendors.

• Ability to independently manage requests and installations through to completion.

• Interest in emerging applications such as predictive maintenance and AI.
