Telecom Service Designer - Freelance

As a transmission system operator, the client operates in a world undergoing rapid change. This is reflected, among other things, in growing concerns about electricity supply and the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources into the high-voltage grid. The major challenges facing the client require, among other things, substantial investment in the high-voltage network over the coming years. To strengthen our activities in delivering high-voltage projects, we are specifically looking for dynamic people who can deliver the telecom component of these high-voltage projects as Telecom Designers.

The service actively contributes to defining, developing and implementing the telecom component of high-voltage projects (high-voltage substations, overhead lines and underground cables) within the client organisation.

Telecom Team:

The telecom team consists of two parts. On the one hand, there are the project engineers, who oversee the telecom component of the project in its entirety (scope, budget and schedule). On the other hand, there are the Telecom Designers who, under the direction of the project manager, develop the necessary plans for the installations to be built.

• During the preliminary study, assist the Telecom Project Leader (PL Telecom) by gathering information and checking as-built plans.

• During the study phase, develop and prepare the implementation plans. More specifically:

• Monitor the schedule of the various studies (priorities and deadlines).

• Develop connection diagrams (overview plan of a connection); implementation plans for the various telecom cabinets; cable lists; and plans for structured cabling.

• Participate in defining and selecting materials.

• Monitor and check the quality of the work delivered, in accordance with the client’s rules, standards and working methods.

• Adapt the standards to the specific study.

• Follow up on the quality of studies carried out internally and externally.

• Check and follow up on construction files.

• During the implementation phase, assist the Telecom Project Leader in properly following up on telecom works on site:

• Maintain contact with the operator, suppliers, contractors and testing teams.

• Intervene and propose solutions when problems arise during construction or commissioning tests.

• When requested, attend site meetings or commissioning tests to provide support on technical matters.

• During the closing phase, participate in the debriefing of the telecom studies and provide support with the as-built versions of the diagrams.
